The most exciting news from the Warhammer Big Autumn Preview
What did we take away from the quarterly preview show?
So, the youngest and I settled down on the sofa on Saturday morning to watch the preview that had streamed live the night before. Here’s what we’re most excited about, in reverse order. And believe me, what proved to be our #1 was a surprise to us.
3. Warhammer Tone Pro
OK, I’ll be honest. I wasn’t that excited when I first saw this. It seemed like Games Workshop’s take on concepts like The Army Painter’s flexible triads.
But then I started seeing videos like this:
And so, I’m interested again. That degree of self-levelling? It could make a lot of paint jobs much easier. As long as they’re not too expensive, these could be a good addition to our paint armoury. The youngest and I might pop along to our local Warhammer store to try them out on Saturday.
2. Games Workshop is making RPGs again!
As I’ve mentioned before, I am old. I bought my first RPG in around 1983. And it looked like this:
My brother bought the first edition Warhammer, which was as much a miniatures-based RPG as it was a wargame. I was a loyal player of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay back when it was published by Games Workshop, or its short-lived subsidiary Flame Publications. But then they got out of that business, Hogshead became the first licensee, and RPGs based on their settings became other people’s business, either directly, or indirectly working for the Black Industries imprint, a subsidiary of Black Library. Even at the most charitable read, it’s been 18 years since GW produced their own RPG.
No longer. We now have Necromunda Roleplay to accompany Necromunda Skirmish! Now it’s my daughters’ turn to enjoy a GW RPG.
Does this mean we might get roleplay content in White Dwarf again, for the first time since it stopped being an RPG mag back in the 80s?
1. Kill Team: Armageddon
We’re largely an Age of Sigmar household at the moment, although I’ve been flirting with Kill Team. Well, looks like the youngest will be joining me, as she was blown away by the Legion of the Damned in the new Kill Team season. Black, bones, flames? This fanned the fire of her growing metal heart.
And then the Nobz were revealed. And she doesn’t know which she loves more. I feel this might be a purchase in our future.
They are very cool minis.
Bonus: we found Mum’s next cosplay
She loves her some dwarve duardin. Hjulda Drakkblud is definitely her kind of gal.
